RAD™ beverages are scientifically formulated protein sports-energy-recovery drinks designed to re-hydrate (replenish fluids and electrolytes), provide energy during exercise from carbohydrates and PeptoPro® protein, and provide all 20 amino acids lost during exercise to enhance recovery (reduce muscle damage, enhance muscle protein re-synthesis, and reduce recovery time). 

Most sports drinks contain only carbohydrate, and some minerals, which have been shown to increase performance during exercise and to speed up recovery after exercise compared to non-carbohydrate drinks and water.  However, such drinks may be deficient in their capacity to provide what is necessary for maximum performance and enhanced recovery.  In today’s competitive world, it is becoming increasingly recognized that the addition of protein can enhance performance over and above that provided by carbohydrates alone.

Some sports drinks also contain proteins, such as whey protein isolates or concentrates, along with carbohydrates and some electrolytes, in order to enhance  performance and recovery after exercise.  However, since some time is required to digest large protein molecules, energy production derived from the protein’s amino acids may be considerably delayed at the expense of enhanced performance.   Further, if amino acid assimilation after exercise is delayed for too long, negative protein balance may ensue and greater muscle degradation may occur to provide necessary substrates for glycogen re-synthesis. 

Most "energy" drinks contain "caffeine" (in pure form or in one of its many botanical extracts, e.g. guarana), "B-vitamins", perhaps some amino acids and possibly herbal extracts to provide their claims to greater "energy".   Caffeine has been shown to enhance athletic performance and B-vitamins are vital  enzyme co-factors for the metabolism of the body’s three main energy substrates, carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids.  However, true energy for enhanced and prolonged performance requires the metabolism of energy substrates, without which, performance will eventually suffer.

 RAD™ protein sports-energy drinks are true Sports, Energy, and Recovery drinks that contains both carbohydrates and proteins and an array of electrolytes to replace those lost during exercise.

RAD™ carbohydrate, is in the form of a proprietary blend of glucose and fructose to provide a rapid absorption of sugar for immediate energy;

RAD™ protein, is in the form of PeptoPro®, the Performance Protein, consisting primarily of di-and tri- peptides for rapid assimilation and energy production..

PeptoPro® casein hydrolysate, developed by DSM Food Specialties, has been shown through scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals, to enhance performance, reduce recovery time after exercise, reduce muscle pain, and enhance protein synthesis after exercise.  Further, it is hypo-allergenic, is tollerated very well, and does not cause gastric problems during or after exercise. 

Consumption of large protein molecules, particularly during exercise, may sometimes cause gastric discomfort, such as gas and bloating.   As shown in Figure 1, large protein isolates and concentrates must first be digested to smaller units, single amino acids, two amino acid units (di-peptides), or three amino acid units (tri-peptides), before being assimilated.

The di- and tri-peptides of PeptoPro®  are "ASSIMILATED INTO THE BODY ALMOST IMMEDIATELY" and do not stay in your gastrointestinal tract for long periods before being taken up into your muscles !!!

During prolonged exercise the body’s glycogen stores are depleted.  Immediately after exercise, the body attempts to replenish  lost glycogen stores and requires glucose for this process.  Sports drinks with carbohydrates alone  may not provide sufficient glucose, and muscle protein will be metabolized to provide critical amino acids (alanine, glutamine, branched chain amino acids, for example) that can be utilized for glycogen re-synthesis.  However, RAD™ has a "sparing effect" on muscle protein degradation by providing sufficient levels of glucose and amino acids from PeptoPro®,  to serve as substrates for glycogen re-synthesis. 

Figure 2 shows the amino acid composition of PeptoPro® compared to the whole casein protein and soy protein.  RAD™ with PeptoPro® provides all 20 amino acids to enhance muscle protein synthesis after exercise and help sustain "positive protein balance" during the Anabolic Zone of Muscle Recovery (Also, Anabolic Window). .

RAD™ Endurance, should be taken immediately before and during exercise, approximately a half to a full serving every 30 minutes or so, as needed.

RAD™ Recovery (with twice the level of protein) should be taken immediately after exercise, approximately a full serving every 30 minutes or so, during the Anabolic Zone of Muscle Recovery (Also, Anabolic Window; usually within the first two or so hours).
